Day 8 – The Glory of His Name

Day 8 – The Glory of His Name

Today we said goodbye to the Galliee, and made our way up to Jerusalem.  On the way, we had the opportunity to see the ancient city of Megiddo, explore Mt. Carmel, and visit Caesarea by the Sea.  These sites were amazing to see, but the teachings that accompanied each site were the best part.  In each of these places, we saw evidence of people who worked to bring fame to their name and contrasted that with those who seek to bring fame to God’s name.  Solomon worked to bring glory to his own name by building Megiddo as one of his chariot cities.  The problem with this though, is that it was in direct violation of Deuteronomy 17:14-20.   At Mt. Carmel, we had the chance to see what God will do for the glory of His name by examining the story of Elijah and the prophets of Baal. (1 Kings 18)   Elijah stood for God’s glory even against an overwhelming number of false prophets, and in response, God showed His power in an unbelievable way.  The last site we visited on our way to Jerusalem was Caesarea by the Sea.  In this city, we saw the power and riches of King Herod, but we also took note that the city lay in ruins.  Herod worked hard to glorify his own name, but in the end, his monument to himself is nothing more than broken stones.  Our legacy must be more than that.  One life, well lived for the glory of God will have a ripple effect through the ages.
